Benefits of Charcoal in your Skincare
What is activated charcoal?
Activated charcoal is created from bone char, coconut shells, peat, petroleum coke, coal, olive pits, bamboo, or sawdust. It is in the form of a fine black dust that is produced when regular charcoal is activated by exposing it to very high temperatures. This is done to alter its internal structure and increase its surface area to increase absorbability. The charcoal that you get after it has undergone this process is very porous.
Important: Do not use regular charcoal on the skin as they contain toxins that could be harmful
How does charcoal for skin work?
Charcoal for skin works by trapping all the toxins, environmental pollutants, excess sebum and chemicals in your pores and pulling it out to the surface of the skin so that it can be washed off. Activated charcoal has a negative electrical charge that attracts positively charged molecules like toxins, chemicals, and dirt.
Charcoal benefits for skin
Cleans out your pores
The pores of our skin take a beating every day with all kinds of dirt, chemicals, environmental pollutants, and toxins clogging them up. And this build-up leaves your complexion looking duller, less fresh and prone to acne. Charcoal can help in such situations by pulling out the dirt from your pores. This not only cleans them, but tightens them and makes them look smaller. Use an activated charcoal mask to get rid of all the blackheads and whiteheads that are caused when pores get clogged with dead skin cells and sebum.
Banish oily skin
Does your face tend to glow like a beacon because of all the accumulated oil? Well, some of us are bestowed with a naturally oily complexion that tends to make us prone to acne and breakouts as the oil on your face attracts dirt and impurities. However, activated charcoal will help you in this aspect too since it is super effective in pulling out all the excess oil from your skin. However, don’t do this for more than twice a week as you don’t want your skin to lose hydration either.
As an acne treatment
Anyone who has lived with acne knows what a pain it can be. From the trauma of ugly scarring on the face to hit and miss treatments that often don’t work, living with acne can be quite difficult. Acne occurs when the hair follicles on the skin get blocked with sebum and dirt and thereafter get infected. This leads to inflamed skin with the red, often pus-filled bumps that are typical of acne. The best part is that charcoal may be useful in controlling this condition depending on its severity. As a face mask, the infection is gently pulled to the surface, while as a soap, it is useful in gently exfoliating your skin. You can also use an activated charcoal mask as a spot corrector if you don’t want to slather your entire face with the mask.
As a facial cleanser
Are you spending tonnes of money on facial cleansers and not getting the desired results? Do you always feel a tad dissatisfied that even though the cleanser has a great fragrance and plenty of lather, it is is not being able to bring a clean shine to your face? Well that is because most facial cleansers cleanse only superficially unlike an activated charcoal cleanser that goes deep inside your pores and gives your skin a thorough cleaning. So dump all those many many face washes and cleaners in your bathroom cabinet and try our Charcoal & Tea Tree Oil Soap Bar for skin benefits.
The other method of deep cleaning your skin is by applying a peel-off mask that has charcoal as an active ingredient. Our Bamboo Charcoal Jelly Facial Mask Powder will not just deep cleanse your face and remove dirt and impurities from your pores, this will also help you get a bright complexion and glowing skin with regular usage. BTW, the mask contains some gelatin to give you the goodness of collagen, the building blocks of skin. This also happened to be an amazing anti-aging therapy.
